MY SUMMER PROJECT: Rebuild this cabinet

I recovered two old school arcade table top cabinets from my Uncle. He had them in his garage and was going to throw them away. I’ve gutted both of them and will be spending the summer turning them into MAME machines. Pretty sweet!!

The one in the picture is an old Space Invaders clone. The other one I have is larger than this. I forgot to take pictures of it before I stripped it down. I was in a hurry that day.

I’ll post more pics of both tables as I progress. They are actually all taken apart, waiting to be rebuilt. I need to get me some special tools to build new controller boxes and order the controller parts.

Should be pretty sweet once they are done.

My two new toys…Seagate 750GB portable HDD and Modnation Racer for the PS3. The HDD was only $90 on Amazon so I snagged it up. The initial thought was tonyanl the drive out and drop it in my Macbook. However upon disassembling the drive enclosure, I found that the drive is not the standard 5-7mm but a whoppping 12mm!!! Oh well it was a good thought. So my next idea is to try see if my PS3 or my MacMini Is more fogiving with the large size. And yes, Modnation Racer. I had wanted to get it but was thinking maybe later when the price goes down. But after watching a vid on Giantbomb.com of them playing it for like 30 mins, I was convinced, I had to have it, NOW!!! so popped Over to GS and grabbed me a copy. I’ll write a review later. What really got me was the deep deep editor. You can create your own drivers, cars and tracks and share them with other players online. What floored me was how amazing the editor is. People have been creating characters that screams copyright infringement!!! There were versions of Mario and Sonic and Ironman and Spaceghost… Fricken badass versions of them too!!! Go watch the video on giantbomb.com and you will understand…anyway time to play some MNR…and grab the mods ppl posted before they get yanked….

Mystery Science Theater 3000, beer and pizza…mmmmm happy goodness…

After a long week, these are going to taste so good….

ICEE Bear! Where are you?!

As I was sitting here passing my workday by, I had a sudden craving for an ICEE. So decided to Google it. Found ICEE’s website, among other things, learned a bit of history about ICEE( The ICEE Co wiki - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Icee_Company).

Anyway, on their website, you can attempt to locate an ICEE machine near you. So I entered my zip code, and wha-la!….to my dismay no ICEE machines near me!! WTF?! According to the ICEE-wiki it says, today, there are 75,000 ICEE machines out there…How can this be?! I know I’ve seen an ICEE machine somewhere. I clicked on products and checked out the flavors…There are 36!! That’s more than Baskin Robbins at any given time! Speaking of that, does Baskin Robbins really only have 31 flavors everyday?….hmmm something to ponder on a later post.

Anyway, back to ICEE…So I clicked on the Photos page, and low and behold, there’s a dude, a Sheldon Lo from the 808, standing next to a cardboard cut out of ICEE bear…FRICK!!

So here is my challenge 808 peeps…find an ICEE machine and take a photo and include where that machine is…photo reply and let me know where dem ICEE machines be….

Bonus points if you get an ICEE Bear in the photo, like Sheldon’s

3D Dot Game Hero~ 8 bit love in 3D!
Earlier this week Atlus released 3D Dot Game Hero for the PS3 in the US. Its a next gen take on RPGs like Zelda. By using 2D style 8 bit pixels but making them 3D, they create a refreshing look and feel to those classic 8 bit RPGs. There’s even a character editor that allows you to create your own 3D Heroes! Atlus has set up a site, Hall of Heroes, that players can post their creations to, although I think they filter it to prevent copyright infringements (boo~!). Check it out here:

Personally, I like how the game looks. Used to love all those old school 8 bit RPGs. I haven’t gotten my copy yet though, waiting for a slight price drop and then I will snag a copy from Amazon using a $10 credit I got from a previous purchase…
Can’t wait to try out the character editor….what character would you create using the editor?

For about $3,400 you can have this 5ft. Gundam model…. However I would rather have the model on the left…
For all those pervy otaku out there, I think you can get a “real doll” love doll for about the same price as this Gundam…somehow I think you will get more enjoyment from that than this Gundam model….just throwing it out there though…

RETRO GAME OF THE WEEK: PACMAN

I just watched “King of Kong” the other week and thought I would add a retro game of the week to my Tumblr. So this week’s game is Pacman.

I have to admit, I actually hate Pacman. I was never a real fan of the game, probably because I sucked at it. I am more of a Donkey Kong fan, of which I suck at too, but am still better at than Pacman. I do have to admit though after watching KofK, it is a great game in the sense that it has change millions of lives across this globe of ours for the past thee decades.

Released in 1980 by Namco, Pacman is still considered to have the highest brand recognition of any video game character with about 94% of Americans able to distinguish the lovable, yellow puck puck.

If you are a fan of Capcom’s Blue Bomber, then check this fan film out. In production for many, many years, its finally available for our viewing pleasure. Yeah its cheesy, buts its the premium Velveeta…
